Group 1) Sea Squirts (Ages - 5 to 7)

Sea Squirt program is designed to introduce young sailors to fun and safety in, around and on the water. The goal of this course is to build young sailor's love for sailing in a controlled and safe environment.  The class is designed to work with the children at the level that they are comfortable with.  Activities build confidence and include sailing, knot tying, nautical terminology, crafts, songs, water activities and "messing about in boats".  We emphasize the importance of team work, respect, and safety in daily lessons. Our number one goal is to pass on our passion for the sport to the next generation of St. Croix Sailors.

Sea Squirt Student requirements are:

  • Provide a U.S. Coast Guard approved Type III Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with a plastic whistle attached.

  • Swim 20 yards while wearing a PFD.

Group 2) Opti Sailing (Ages - 8 and up)

The 8 foot optimist is the international standard in youth sail training. The “Opti” is specifically designed for junior sailors under 120 lbs.

This class caters to each individuals’ goals within the sport of sailing from the beginner to intermediate sailor.  Including making them confident and comfortable sailing the optimist pram on their own, basic boat-handling skills,  points of sail, proper sail trim, seamanship, basics of racing and navigation.

Opti Sailing Student requirements are:

  •  Able to swim 50 yards and pass a swim test.
  •  Provide a U.S. Coast Guard approved Type III Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with a plastic whistle attached.
